LightOn: Lecture with Cino Zucchi
7. november 2019

In praise of a just-out-of time architecture.

Utzon Center is proud to be part of the LightOn lectures which is a series of talks by some of the most renowned and prominent architects, artist and thinkers in the world today.

The first conference will be on Thursday 7th November with a talk by the architect Cino Zucchi.

It is entitled “The Campsite Shower Theory. In praise of a just-out-of time architecture”. With the ironic “campsite shower” metaphor, Zucchi seeks to highlight the gap between need and response and the ability of buildings and cities to adjust over time in order to fulfil roles and functions they were not originally designed for.

One of the most prestigious Italian designers in the sphere of architecture and urban design, Cino Zucchi was born in Milan in 1955 and has degrees from both the M.I.T. and the Milan Polytechnic where he now teaches.

Cino Zucchi is the author of numerous articles and books on architectural theory and history, and he curated the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennial in 2014 and has been a visiting professor at the Harvard GSD.

Together with his CZA studio he has designed and constructed numerous acclaimed and prize-winning buildings, public spaces and urban developments.

LightOn: Free lecture with Simone Gobbo
26. marts 2020 (cancelled due to the spread of coronavirus)

Architecture is something like a mixtape.

Utzon Center is proud to be part of the LightOn lectures which is a series of talks by some of the most renowned and prominent architects, artist and thinkers in the world today.

This second conference will be held on Thursday 26th March and feature Italian architect Simone Gobbo from DEMOGO – Studio di Architettura.

The lecture is entitled 'Architecture is something like a mixtape'.

Here Simone Gobbo will explain how in the processes of architecture, there exists a complexity similar to the development of the sound constructions of music.

- Listening, recording, composing and merging individual elements in a dense system, a synthesis that affects a track, something unique but at the same time reachable, something that can be extended like in a continuous mixing tape in the genesis of the space, says Simon Gobbo.

In the lecture Simon Gobbo will elaborate on the research done by DEMOGO and the production processes in architecture. Simon Gobbo will explain the studios approach from the conception of a project and how DEMOGO find their own sound and voice within the contemporary.

Young talents and the Biennale
DEMOGO was founded in 2007 Simone Gobbo, Alberto Mottola and Davide De Marchi.

The first important step for the studio was winning the first prize in European 10 in 2009, where the theme of the international competition was the design of a new town hall in Gembloux in Belgium. The building was completed in 2015.

Since then Demogo have claimed several awards and recognitions. For instance in 2015 where the National Council of Italian Architects awarded Demogo with the prize Young Talent of Italian Architecture.

In 2018 DEMOGO was invited to exhibit at the 16th Venice Biennale of Architecture in the Italian Pavillon.
