THE WORKSHOP

Jul 5th 2022 to Aug 21st 2022

Come and join us in The Workshop. Meet a new generation of young architects and designers and enjoy not only an in-depth look at their projects, but also a glimpse of the future.

Did you know that the Utzon Center also has a workshop?

It is the workplace of Aalborg University’s next generation of architects and designers. You see, the Utzon Center is not a museum in the traditional sense of the word. We are a venue, in which architecture and design constantly evolve, as students and researchers experiment with contemporary materials and future forms of expression.

For example, the workshop features a whole wall of redesigned door handles made from sustainable materials. There are also impressive models of transformed urban spaces and libraries, and a beautiful acoustic wall constructed with the use of a robotic arm.

On the brink of what is possible

“I love being on the brink of what is possible,” said Jørn Utzon of his work as an architect. The quote refers to his unique talent for merging innovation, technology and construction with artistic vision.

The same applies to the students and researchers who are exhibiting their projects in THE WORKSHOP. What is so special about Aalborg University is the way in which it seeks to discover new connections, rather than differences, between technology, function and aesthetics.

From door handles to parks

For the entire summer period, we have tidied up the students’ workshop and transformed it into an exhibition, featuring design projects on which the students worked over the last year: door handles, concert halls, parks – you name it. The projects include urban design, architecture and industrial design, but what they all have in common is an exploration of how an interdisciplinary approach can create meaningful change in the world.

The students’ work also provides insight into current fields of research, important societal issues and the production techniques of the future.

Take a look at the architecture and design of tomorrow.

Welcome to The Workshop!

We extend our very special thanks to all the students and PhD researchers who have contributed to the exhibition.
